Harry Potter galore

I have to admit I was a bit skeptical on the popularity of the Harry Potter series. I changed my mind when last year I read the fifth book "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix". JK Rowling has quite the vivid imagination. I was impressed that she has this ability to write a series a books that both children and adults could enjoy. For last Christmas I asked for the paperback boxed set of the first four Harry Potter books. I am currently less than half way through the third book "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban". I have yet to get to "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire". As much as I enjoyed the first two books, I have to say "The Prisoner of Azkaban" is my personal favorite (so far). It is too bad that evangelicals who have criticized JK Rowlings and her books can't see the books for what they are and that is pure entertainment. Reading the Harry Potter books have been a pure joy. I cannot wait to see "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" this summer. I don't plan on seeing it until I finish the book. I personally would rather have the paperback boxed set than to have bought each book separately. Like anything comes cheap nowadays. I hope I don't have to wait so long for the sixth Harry Potter book but I wouldn't hold my breathe for it either.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Book 2)
Incredible

The worst thing about this book is that it ends. I was so mad at myself for reading it in one sitting that I started reading it again (so far I've read it six times) until I can get the next book. The story here is flawless. Even better than the first book. Not only has Rowling written a great children's book but a great mystery. Just when you think you've figured it out, you're wrong and then you're wrong again and then finally you'll slap your head for not seeing the obvious. I also have to commend Rowling for her use of classical mythology. Parseltongue, a balisk, a phoenix! My god by the time this series is over I wouldn't be surprised if Lord Voldemort takes the form of a bull and carries away dear Hermoine! My best advice is if you haven't read this book yet buy the next two when you get this otherwise you'll die of frustration!

As good as expected -- up all night reading.

Wow! It's 7:30 am and I just spent 6 1/2 hours reading the new Harry Potter book (the first hour my 11-year-old daughter was reading it). It's never drags and seems much shorter than it is, and Rowling is as inventive as ever. I think book 3, "HP and the Prisoner of Azkaban", was the most perfect, but this book is still terrific. The plot depends on Harry developing more of a stubborn streak, but this character development is well-justified.Cornelius Fudge has managed to keep the lid on Harry's news that Voldemort is back, and his motives and ability to do this are well-foreshadowed atthe end of book 4. "The Order of the Phoenix" is what I guessed it would be. Dumbledore is out of the action for more than I'd like, but this is necessary given Rowling's consistent sticking to Harry's viewpoint -- he is in every scene and things the other characters do without him must be explained to him later (and this is handled well).Ron and Hermione show a bit of growth, and Harry's relatioship with Cho Chang is frustrating but well-drawn. However, book 6 is going to be very different, given the way this one ends!

Wonderful, beyond words...

I didn't read this book, I devoured it! I'm 21 and Harry Potter's spell caught on me as if I was 12... The books just keep getting better and better... this huge book is read in a couple of days, J.K. Rowling know how to build her story so well the end can't be guessed... just don't let your children rush to the end, just to see how it finishes! Laughter is a constant presence, with the Weasley twins and Ron, suspense is often unbearable, and you can also cry sometimes. Harry Potter's growing up, worth watching! getting better and better. For kids, a must-have, for grown-ups, a burst of fresh air, of fantasy.

What really needs to be said?

If you're reading this, you probably already know how great these books are, so I'll keep it simple: this book is exponentially better - surpassing all the lofty expectations I placed upon it. It is with this 900-page tome that Harry Potter makes the leap from children's story to adult fiction. Gone is the majority of the whimsy prevalent in the first four (or, three and a half, really), replaced with a brooding sentiment of foreboding evil. The cover says it all - it is a dark, monochromatic cover, quite different than the four colorful preceding volumes. Notice also that this is the first cover to feature a grim Harry - gone is his characteristic smile. In summation, for the three of you that actually *don't* have the book yet, don't let any aprehensions about the series running thin worry you. The previous four may have been children's books - this one is literature.

Grandmother loves Harry Potter

I bought the 1st three books in the series and started reading them to my 6 year old granddaughter. She may be a little young to understand all the humor and lessons to be learned but I am really enjoying these books! She looks forward to the next chapter(and so do I). I know she will read these books again. And I will read them to the younger grandchildren when they are ready. They are an instant classic and I can't wait for number 4!

Other four kicked its butt

to tell you the truth I was pretty disapointed with this one. It hardly even seemed like it was the same person writing. Dont get me wrong, it was alright. But after reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which is by far the best book I have ever read, I was expecting more. It was far to long for what it was and the teachers werent in it nearly enough, like McGongall. She is like my favorite charactor. Plus now Harry is a selfish brat and I dont like that at all! I wasnt really into the whole Order of the Phoenix, there should have been a better plot then that. Like I said, it was ok, but not the bast.

Wow.....

*CAUTION! CONTAINS SPOILERS*
I finished the book a few hours ago and I have been trying to digest it since. Although the fourth installment in the Harry Potter series was a bit darker and hastily written, Rowling has returned to her original writing style that first drew me to the books. Harry is growing up, coping not only with normal adolescent issues, but the added circumstances of his past, the return of Lord Voldemort, and a teacher even worse than Snape. Not to mention that hardley anyone outside his inner-circle of friends believe him. As with the first three books, there is a constant underlying adventure (in the case, Harry's dreams about a mysterious door he can never seem to reach) as well as "mini-adventures" such as the mayhem of the school when Dumbledore is fired, a Centaur for a teacher, and the appearance Hagrid's not-so-little brother. This is a MUST READ for anyone who has ever read a Harry Potter book, and if you haven't, go, read now. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the most highly anticipated book in Scholastic's history (more than doubling the previous record number of first prints, which, coincidentally, was held by Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), also serves as somewhat of an intermediant book. Never before have I been so set up and anticipating the events for the next book.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Book 6)
Bloody brilliant!!!!!

On the night of July 15th, I waited outside a Walden Bookstore for four hours for my copy of Harry Potter and the Halfblood Prince. The wait was incredibly long, but incredibly worth it. Never in my life had I been waiting so long for a book (if anyone saw my review of the first book, they'd see that prior to my reading it, I despised reading). I'd been waiting impatiently for this book since the fifth book came out last year.

Of all of Rowling's books, this one was the most powerful. While some believe that it was merely a bridge between the fifth and seventh book, I believe it was much more than that. Many of the things revealed in it are certainly going to be important, but many of the things that happened are also important. Many people probably believed that if the death that occured in this book was going to happen, it was going to be in the seventh and final book, for example. Now Harry is perhaps, truly on his own, and will need all the help he can get with the great tasks ahead of him.

The mood and the writing style of this book were both more casual and relaxed -- it was as if the reader had become so familiar that the style was a more "usual" style, and in my opinion, a better style, and indeed, by this book the reader is so familiar.

While perhaps one of the saddest, I feel that this book was the best. It opens up many questions and prepares us for a truly mystifying end of the Harry Potter series in the seventh book in the series.

I highly recomend this book and all others in the series and books by J.K. Rowling to all who enjoy reading.
