Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Book 6)
Very interesting - can't wait for Book 7!

Before I read this book, I was expecting all the major plot lines to be tied up, and Book 7 to be just a tying up of minor loose ends. But now that I have read it, I have to admire what J.K. Rowling has done, and I am glad that she has left the true wrapup to Book 7. There are countless plot twists from this book to mull over and discuss with other Harry Potter enthusiasts in the meantime.

I must admit that I listened to the CD version of the Half-Blood Prince all the way through before going to the book. Jim Dale's reading of the book is, as for the previous 5 books, superb. At first I was worried that there was going to be a lot of filler, as there was in Book 5, but the second chapter convinced me that J.K. Rowling is back in top form in this book - and I continued to listen non-stop through all 17 CDs.

The biggest question mark is Snape. I agree that very little in the HP books is as it seems, and at the end, Dumbledore could as easily be saying, "Please do it," as not. There's a parallel between Snape's involvement with what happened to Harry's parents and Harry's attack on a student whom he doesn't much like that shows you don't have to like someone to regret causing them harm. So I have to think that Dumbledore, as always, knows what he's about.

There are many laugh out loud moments, and I'm glad we're past the teenage angst of Book 5. The Harry Potter character shows growth and understanding. I especially like the message that you can never fully eradicate evil and must always be aware of its presence: World War I, "The War to End All Wars," didn't. A pretty relevant lesson in light of recent terrorist attacks. "Situational awarenes" and "constant vigilance" are as relevant in today's world as they are in the wizarding world.

I am also wondering if Harry himself could be one of the Horcruxes. If so and Voldemort is killed, might not all of Harry's powers that were derived from Voldemort's attack on him as a baby disappear, leaving him much diminished, maybe even a squib? Well, back to the book and I'm taking notes!

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Book 4)
Harry Potter and the GoF

This was a very entertaining and exciting book. It keeps you wondering and is the best book yet. J.K. Rowling has out done herself once again and blessed us with this great book. Harry is faced with another plan from You-Know-Who, which succeeds. Two other schools come to Hogwarts to participate in a dangerous, and possible death, tornament. As Harry grows and finds feelings and tries living through a fight with Ron, he tries to stay alive. With You-Know-Who back to power, will he survive another year at Hogwarts?

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Book 5)
Very Dark, Slightly depressing

Expecting the local bookshop shelves to be completely bare, I was very suprised to find this book easily available only an hour after its release. However, it was on special, so I grabbed it, took it home and started reading. Two days later I was done, it was that compelling. I found Harry to be slightly less likable in this book, although I could understand the reasons for his changes in character. Possibly a small complaint is that Hermione and Ron have hardly changed at all since they were 11, while Harry has become a full blown angst ridden teenager. This is handled quite well, although his moping does grate after a while. The series is maturing, presumably apace with the readers. There are some themes here that weren't even hinted at in earlier books, and the suggestion that its going to get darker and more mature still. I found the experience of reading the book as a whole slightly depressing, similar in a way to some of Harrys experiences at Hogwarts, which he describes as 'Odd notes in a familiar tune' (I forget the exact quote). We're used to the routine of the books by now, and it's slightly altered in this one, which is disconcerting. This is not necessarly a bad thing, and I'm still greatly looking forward to the next in the series. It's not all doom and gloom however. Theres a few laugh out loud moments, mostly involving the Weasly twins, which I won't divulge. All in all, greatly recommended, with a little bit of excessive wordiness stopping it from being a perfect 5...looking forward to book number 6.

Harry Potter and the Bible: The Menace Behind the Magick (And the Bible Series)
This book is bad, Harry isn't

First off, I am a Christian of 20 years. Secondly, I do like the Harry Potter series. Thirdly, I understand that certain forms of witch-craft do exist, and that they can ultimatly lead to the devil. That being said, anyone who honestly believes that Harry Potter will lead to satanic worship clearly has not read the books thouroughly or critically. A fine line is drawn between good and evil (just like in the Bible), and we are lined up in support of good. I wonder if anyone who denounces Potter also denounces Star Wars (Isn't the force like magic, unseen and given to only a select few? Are we not on the side of the good Luke Skywalker, rather than evil Darth Vader?)? And along the same lines, Christians seem to love the Chronicles of Narnia (as do I), but have they forgotten the centaurs who read the stars and make prophesies on behalf of the main characters (maybe you should remember Harry's centaur friend Firenze)? This book does nothing but promote uninformed, close-minded, and antiquatied notions that children are unable to seperate fact from fiction, and furthermore give Christians everywhere a bad name.

But the Type was too small, and I couldn't read it...!

These were some pretty nifty little books. And i do mean little, not more than like 50 pages or something, but they were worth it. The books told you a lot about different magical things(and also explained many phenomenons such as the Loch Ness Monster). I'd suggest buying these just to fill in the wait for Book 5. And it also showed that US money sucks for galleons. Well, buy them if you want a short, entertaining little read
