Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Book 5)
The Order of The Phoenix - an older hero and an older author

Harry has changed. So has his situation. Maybe J.K. has changed during these three years. Everyone, especially Harry, seems short tempered. The increased level of blindness to the obvious would be an annoying distraction if it didn't seem to make such a wonderful allogory to events in Nazi Germany and other oppressive regimes. We've had the good, and the bad, and now we have the inert. The ministry is now in conflict with Hogwarts and blind, deaf, and dumb to the dangers of the risen Dark Lord. There is more conflict everywhere between friends and family. Some members no longer respect their own family's values. There are a few pleasant interludes, but they vanish quickly. To me it is fierce reading, not relaxing at all. The out come may be more satisfactory than that of book 4, but it takes it's toll. But hey, lets hope book #6 and movie #3 don't require 3 years

It's fantastic I read this book in a day and want to again.

I love it, it's absolutely fantastic, if you thought magic and wizardry was for children you'll think twice about it once you've read the Harry Potter books!!

Overrated.......

this series is completely overrated. average writing abilty, the same magical creatures you find in any fantasy book, and a predictable plot. heres an outline 1.mistreated orphan learns he survived attack on his family and really has special powers 2.he goes to develop those powers at some school run by an insane old man who knows what earwax tastes like 3. every year at school he fights either a different form of or henchman of the same villainwho gets really tiring because he may be cruel, but he's really not that frightening 4. they always learn at the last minute what the villain is planning and make it just in time to save the day my prediction of the last book's end: the villain will be defeated and some idiot close to harry will die and were supposed to be sad, but by then we shouldn't be they whine they complain they think they're cool when in reality theyre cardboard characters in a cut-along-the-lines-of-predictably-plott ed-books

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Book 1)
Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone is awesome!

OK, I admit. I wondered what all the fuss was about. Did these people think this was the first chilren's book about wizards and magic and such? I mean, come on!But finally I ordered the book thinking that at the least I'd add it to my daughter's growing library (she's only 3, but I keep adding books for when she's older). I started Harry's adventure at work when I opened the shipping box. I drove through KFC on the way home because I didn't want to stop reading to cook supper for my family. The Harry Potter books have something for anyone willing to let a little fantasy into their heart.Adults and children will identify with a character who is bullied and mistreated for being different. We are cheering for Harry when he finds out there are others like him. It's the Ugly Duckling of the Magical Realm.Chilren will benefit from the good v. evil morals of these stories. And as a plus, they get these valuable lessons without preachy overtones.I am anxious for the next book in the series to come out for my own reading pleasure. I also can't wait for my daughter to be old enough to enjoy these stories. Like The Chronicles of Narnia, Charlotte's Web, and Alice in Wonderland--this is a series that I plan to read aloud to my kid's and hope they want to read again when they are old enough.

Rowling's not the best

I really loved the book. I thought that 606.5 of the 607 pages were brilliant. My wife hated who JKR killed in this book. I thought it made sence and was nessisary. However, JKR pissed me off with what she had Harry tell a certain girl in the last chapter of the book. Amazon was great with me and I recieved my book the monday after it was released on saturday because I have no sat. deliveries available where I live, BUT I will not be prepurchasing the 7th book. I plan to go to the store and read the last few pages of the last book, I am not going to waste my money or time reading it unless JKR is going to make her fans happy and give them a good fairy tale ending to book 7. If she does not end book 7 in a happy way I will never let my children read any of the Harry Potter books because life is sad and if they wanted to be sad they would not be reading a fantasy book. I loved the book but got PISSED OFF with 1/2 a page of text.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Book 4)
Wow!

Book came out July 8. I read the entire thing immediately! I really enjoyed this book and was amazed at its length (700+ pages). However, as usual, she has left me hanging at the end and I am frustrated because now I have to wait for the next one? ANy chance it is being published this week?

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Book 2)
The most suspenseful novel!

I have to say that after reading the 2nd in the series, I know "get" why such a fuss has been made about Harry Potter. I liked the first one, but this was truly masterful storytelling.I really love the boarding school aspect to this series and enjoyed seeing the kids return for the 2nd year. This time the plot centered around the dark froces at Hogwarts being unleashed from the Chamber of Secrets. There were so many plot twists and surprises. The author offers hints, there is really no wasted information in this story. I honestly could not put it down for the final 50 pages! It was so much fun to read- I have to go read volume 3!

Downward spiral

While Book 4 showed first signs of it, book 5 manifested it in full force: there is little creative freedom left in Mrs. Rowling's writing.
1. Too many loose ends need to be remembered and taken care of, thus much of the book unnecessarily details, explains and prepares for the next book, or even the final (few failed to notice that, or am I mistaken?).
2. It is sad, that there is more and more of Hollywood influence in Rowling's books: sometimes you cannot escape the thought "well, that is supposed to look lovely on the screen", or should contribute to the list of potential merchandise.
3. Very heavy weight of expectations is also felt - I do not think that constant pressure of readers' unbelievably high expectations helped in any way. There is much less magic, sincerity and true feelings in Book Five compared to previous, especially first 3 books. Obligation spoils creativity.
4. I also believe, that the purpose for writing the Potter story has also changed -it used to be an escape for a jobless mother, possibly means to get out of the harsh reality, then it became the source of income, and then it became sort of property of millions and millions of readers around the globe. Mrs. Rowling is likely more of a "keeper", than an "owner" of the story. Could there be true creative freedom under such circumstances?Sad, that I no longer count days waiting for a Potter sequel...

They just get better and better

I'd like to sit here and list things I love about this book, but I would hate to spoil it for anyone. However, if you're a Harry Potter fan, know that you won't be disappointed with this book. It was well worth the wait, I only hope we don't have to wait as long for the next one.
The ending isn't as tidy and happy as the other books, but it is definitely building up to a climactic final book.
