Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Book 5)
Not worth the long wait!

I must say, the Harry Potter series was great. And, of course, I'm talking about the first four. The first one was a wonderful beginning to the series, the second, an even better continuation. The third one shows a possible future for Harry and the forth strengthened that possible future and through more emotions at you than a theatrical drama. And the fifth? Tore down that possible future and gave a negative reaction throughout the entire story. First off, they destroyed the Hogwarts we learned to love. By sticking in the Ministry of Magic in Hogwarts, it annailated the whole school system into some variation of a torture camp. Hagrid had little to no part in the whole book, and Harry is in a bad streak. The entire year. Also, the story is shrouded with a fog of mystery that will drive readers nuts as everybody declines to explain the situation to Harry at the beginning of the book. That and other complaints I have drags down my rating of the book. But there's just one thing that infuriated me.Sirius died. The same guy who strived for what was really right in the third, and promised a wonderful new home for Harry in the forth is killed by falling behind a curtain. In the very least, he should have a very dramatic death. Also, Harry's relationship with Chow was just plain annoying. They're hardly acquantinces and they're going on dates. To add to the list, the Weasley twins are gone. They added the spark of pure enjoyment to the series, and without them, homework times while become a bore.All-in-all, the only interesting thing in the book is the fact that Umbridge is the only Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher who doesn't congradulate Harry at every turn or acts nice to him.If you're into Harry Potter or just reading the series, I recommend this book only to complete a collection or as information for the hopefully better sixth book. Hopefully.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Book 5)
Pretty good, despite its length

I have just finished reading this book and checked to see if anyone else had reviewed it. I love Harry, but of all the books this one wasn't my favorite. It was actually a little bit of a let down after all the hype. So much mystery about "who dies" and what Dumbledore "should've told Harry years ago", and eagerness to have these questions answered made the length of the book seem almost tedious. Also, I know Harry's a 'brooding teenager' now but his perpetual negative attitude was tiresome. Otherwise, a very good book.

The Best Yet!

What can I say? J.K. Rowling has done it again. The fourth book, in my opinion is the best yet. Much more suspensful and violent it seems as if you have reached the climax when you read the first sentance! A total twist in the ending with Lord Voldemort coming to power again. Couldn't imagine any book being better!

Rowling Goes way Beyond Expectations!

Rowling goes way beyond of what was expected of her, yet again! Yet, I really don't understand why so many people are criticizing her work! I for one thought that the book was a bit better than the others, if not one of the best. I mean it was a large book but what would you of expected her to do! Her books got a bit longer every time. You would probably be all complaining if she came out with a 200 or so page book. You would be saying ,"Well it was ok, but it would be nice if it was longer!". And many are saying how Harry's personality changed drastically, maybe he is just finally going through puberty or something. I mean wouldn't you have been a bit mad if everyone was shutting you out of everything!?.. So I understand why Rowling presented Harry the way that she did, and I would hope that you would too. So in my opinion I think that she did an outstanding job with the book, and can't wait until the sixth book is released! (Wouldn't be surprised if she came out with a book the size of the first one.. Just to please some...) I just hope that Rowling finds an other word than "mate".

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

JK Rowling has done it again. This book plunges you into Harry's life very quickly and keeps you fascinated throughout the end. (I know I read it until 4 am this morning.) The first chapter begins without the usual recounting of previous history and jumps right into a battle with dementors right near Privet Drive. Harry's use of magic causes a hearing on his potential expulsion from Hogwarts. The base support of the Hogwarts family is being undermined by the suspiscion cast upon Dumbledore and his supporters. The familiarity of the school and it's traditions doesn't bring the sense of comfort to Harry as it does in past books. The impact of the Ministry of Magic (remember Fudge didn't really believe Harry's fight with Voldemort and his return at the end of Book 4) threatens all that Harry holds dear at Hogwarts. The new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher is an appointment from The Ministry of Magic and allows Fudge to insinuate himself into the management of the school. Defense Against the Dark Arts has become a joke so Harry starts a true Defense class in hiding at the urging of Hermione. Unfortunately for Harry, Ron and Hermione the cloud of suspiscion that covers Hogwarts also includes them. Harry is derided for his involvement in Cedric's death and belief that Voldermort has returned. This causes them more challenges as they attempt to prepare for 5th year O.W.L.S. There is so much that happens in this book that can be discussed but I don't want to give away anything to someone who hasn't read it. There is a significant death at the end of the book. The humour from the previous books is not as prevalent in this one as Harry faces "adulthood". The familiar characters return to help Harry, Ron and Hermione through this 5th year and deal with the Death Eaters and Voldermort (Hagrid, Sirius, Moody, Lupin, the Weasley's, Firenze, Dumbledore, Longbottom, Malfoy, Snape and all the rest)I began reading this with my 9 year old last night and as usual, he was fascinated throughout the first chapter. The good news is that good battles evil and wins. The children that read this Harry Potter book are growing up with him and many should be able to relate to his problems with school, friends, girlfriends and "family". Harry is still a boy that tries to do the right thing and is gaining maturity and knowledge as he learns. Enjoy the book. Hopefully, the next one will be published in a shorter timeframe.

Great Potter Sequel!

As a manager of Zany Brainy, I was getting a lot of awesome feedback from parents about this book. They were telling me that their children were actually reading more now that they got hooked on this series, so i read the books myself and actually found that I enjoyed them as well as some of my 8 year old customers. Parents...if you want excellent literature for your children, and want them to have excellent experiences with reading....buy them this book!

Gives King Fortis the Brave a run for its money

With the possible exception of King Fortis the Brave, Harry Potter is the greatest young adult fantasy hero on the market today, and this is the best of the books so far. If you haven't read any of the Harry Potter books, it's best to start at the beginning. But don't stop at the first one. They keep getting better and better. And Rowling promises that the best is yet to come.
