The Hobbit : The Enchanting Prelude to The Lord of the Rings
A Slightly Challenging Book , but Well worth it .

I first read the Hobbit in grade school. Since then, I have been a rabid fan of scifi and fantasy novels, and I can attribute my discovery of the incredible world of fantasy fiction to this book. I loved it then, and I can still come back to it and enjoy it, 12 years later. I can't recommend the Hobbit highly enough: this, along with the Lord of the Rings, is THE book. It has served as a "gateway" book for millions of readers around the world, and hopefully it will have the same effect on you. Yes, you can find it in the library, but you'll end up buying it anyway, might as well get it over with..

The Hobbit : The Enchanting Prelude to The Lord of the Rings
Good vocal performance

My 11-year-old daughter liked this performance. She and I listened to it together once a week over a month or so. The actor's performance is very good. The elements of the story are terrific--it's quite an adventure that Bilbo goes on. The prose itself is rather plodding, I thought, especially since we just finished the Harry Potter books. At times, Tolkien's narrative reads like a legal brief. But overall, it was mostly entertaining.

The Hobbit : The Enchanting Prelude to The Lord of the Rings
My favorite book!

I collect editions of Tolkien's work, and received this one from my wife for my birthday. A wonderfully interesting twist on a classic! It is done "comic style", with balloon dialog through out, but the story editing was done very well, and the illustration is absolutely beautiful. It really is a must have for any Tolkien fan, and a nice departure from the many hardcover and paperback editions you probably already have. It would be an excellent introduction to Tolkien's world for younger readers as well.

J.R.R. Tolkien Boxed Set (The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings)
My daughter loves this set

I read these back in college, but had never forgotten their magic. I recently gave this set to my young daughter and she
quickly emersed herself headlong into the beautiful and bewitching world which Tolkien creates for the reader. Do
the same for your young ones!

The Hobbit : The Enchanting Prelude to The Lord of the Rings
Outstanding!!!

This was my first fantasy novel. I really had no interest in reading fantasy before. I heard this was an extraordinary book. I heard right. This is a master piece. Tolkien brings out the child that is within us all. He takes the imagination to new heights, introducing us to an extraordinary land filled with extraordinary people and creatures; some good, some evil. Bilbo Baggins the lead character in the book is goes on an adventure that is beyond his wildest dreams. The way in which Tolkien tells this tale, is worth the read by itself. This is a masterful prelude to the 'Lord Of The Rings', the greatest fantasy epic ever written!

Pd.7 Reading Imagine given a magical ring that could destroy the entire world if the forces of evil get it, if you don't destroy it. This is what Frodo Baggins had to do. This story is about a struggle for a ring of power in a place called middle earth. The two sides of the struggle are the free peoples and the forces of the dark lord called Sauron. Characters in the story are Frodo (a Hobbit), Sam (also a Hobbit), Legolas (an Elf), Gimli (a Dwarf), and Borimer, Arogon, Gandalf, Saruman, and Theoden (all Men). The setting takes place in a place called middle earth. In middle earth there are many regions were these different people live. Like the Shire (where the Hobbits live), Rivendel (where the Elves live), Gondor, Rohan, and Isengard (where the Men live), and all in the mountains live the Dwarfs and the Goblins (part of the evil side), and finely where the Orcs (evil) live in Mordor. The plot of the story is that a dark lord called Sauron, a spirit, has his minion's try to take the ring from Frodo. While he is doing that, armies of Sarumans from Isengard attack the people of Rohan. This is where the struggle of Rohan to survive comes in. Now the heroes have to split up.
First, My over all opinion of this book is that it was a good adventure book but too many details. This book is a Fantasy book. The only way that this was a page turner book is because of the action.
Last This book was Fantasy because none of the book was true. The book is part of a 3-book series, and this is the second one of the series. In conclusion, I recommend this book to people who can remember things.

The Hobbit : The Enchanting Prelude to The Lord of the Rings
My All-Time Favorite Book

This fantasy tale is actually a prequel or predecessor to Tolkein's famous epic, the Lord of the Rings trilogy. It is required reading for any serious student of fantasy or speculative fiction and I recommend it enthusiastically. J. R. R. Tolkein (1892-1973) was a noted philologist who was Merton Professor of English Language and Literature at Oxford University as well as a close friend of C. S. Lewis. "The Hobbit," originally a story written for children, is a tale of the hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, and how he helps a wizard named Gandalf and a group of dwarves in their quest when traveling through a land known as Middle-Earth. Hobbits are little people who are smaller than dwarves, don't have beards, live in holes in the ground, and don't wear shoes. They have hairy feet which have leathery soles. One day, Bilbo is visited by Gandalf and his adventures began. The following day a group of thirteen dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield, visited Bilbo with Gandalf. They planned to travel to the Lonely Mountain to recover a treasure that had been stolen by the dragon Smaug many years earlier and they have decided to enlist the aid of Bilbo. In the travels of this troup, they overcome some trolls, find two ancient swords, meet friendly elves, and discover a secret message on their treasure map. They are captured by goblins and rescued by Gandalf. However, Bilbo is separated from the rest and finds himself alone in a dark cave where he meets the creature Gollum. After a contest of riddles, Bilbo escapes Gollum with the aid of a magical ring that he had found in the cave. Upon rejoining Gandalf and the dwarves, the travelers continue their trek but are soon attacked by Wargs (evil wolves). They are rescued once again, this time by giant eagles who fly them to safety. Their adventures continue until the quest is finally completed.

The Return of the King (The Lord of the Rings, Book 3)
the return of the king

The Return of the King The Return of the King, part three of The Lord of the Rings trilogy is one of the best books I have read in quite a while. In this book Frodo and Sam are approaching the conclusion of their long and exhausting quest, but Gollum is tight on their trail. Merry and Pippin have been estranged into two different kingdoms. Pippin is a warrior, who serves to king Th?oden. Merry is a servant to the steward of Gondor. Aragorn has a major decision to make, and is on his perilous journey back to Rivendell, because of Arwen.

I think that this book is very well written, and has a lot of complex words that can improve the readers vocabulary. The Return of the King is the third in its trilogy, and I think it would be allot easier for the reader if he or she read the first two Lord of the Rings books before reading on to the third. This book was very exciting and I think that it is one of the greatest epics of our time. I also think that this is the best book out of the three Lord of the Rings books. Over all this is a really great book. This book took me quite some time to read and I think that a more skilled reader would be able to go through it and enjoy it more resourcefully. I also think that guys would be more interested in this book because there is a lot of fighting and warfare involved in it. I would recommend it to high school aged people because it is really a complicated book to read. Anyone who has enjoyed books about warfare or fantasy would take pleasure in reading this book a great deal.
