The Two Towers (The Lord of the Rings, Book 2)
The Journey continues...

As we might expect from the second and middle book in a trilogy, The Two Towers develops its own plot elements, separating itself from the first book, and ending in a frustrating climax. I think that this is my favorite book of the three so far, but I'll have to hold back final judgment until I read The Return of the King, the final book in what has turned out to be my favorite trilogy. The story as interpreted, is broken up into two stories that combine in the end to make sense of this dramatic thriller. The first part of the book has a wide range of activity; it's about the beginning of the War of the Ring in the time of Middle Earth and it concentrates mainly on Merry and Pippins adventure through mysterious lands. As they meet some of the cruelest and unique creatures, they press on to find Frodo and Sam who are on their way to destroy the ring. The second part of the book follows Frodo, Sam, and Gollum as they try to make their way to Mordor, to the top of Mount Doom where the ring can be destroyed to preserve the world. The story turns out to be the most interesting of the two books so far and I highly recommended this book to the educated class who desire a in-depth, breath-taking adventure through a character filled new world.
A+

Excelent Book, a little too much discription.

A Tolkien masterpiece. The thing I didn't like is the amount of discription he put into his books. Although, it has an exellent plot as well as a stupendous story! I exeedingly enjoyed this series. A must read for fantasy lovers!!!

The Fellowship of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings, Book 1)
Just stick with it...

One of the major comments you will hear about this book is that it is a bit slow getting started. But hang in there and get through the set up; its SO worth it! Even the parts of the book characterized as slow are useful; this exposition helps immerse you into Middle Earth, which is one of the more common positive comments you will read about here in the reviews. Reading LOTR is a commitment, treating it like a weekend novel will result in disappointment. But when you are on the edge of your seat as the fog closes in on the hobbits on the Barrow-Downs, or letting the phone ring off the hook, forgotten, as Glorfindel urges his horse to flee with Frodo on its back at the attack of the Ringwraiths at the Ford of Brunien, you will be glad you took the time to do it right. Enjoy!

The Best Novels OF The Twentith Century

I'm not sure how many people saw the movies before reading the books, but I'm one of those people. As soon as I saw the movies,(all three) I knew that I had to read them. They are so good!!! The movies were great in describing them, but, as usual, the books are better. This is a little summary: Though I haven't read all of 'The Hobbit', I know a bit of what happens in that story. Bilbo Baggins, the main charecter, finds the One Ring in the Misty Mountains, and wins it from the creature, Gollum, who has lost, it if I'm correct. Anyway, the first book of 'The Lord Of The Rings' story,(it was made quite clear in the introduction of the first edition that it's not a trilogy) starts with Bilbo celebrating his 'one hundred-elventith' birthday. He's planning to leave the Shire, his home, and go live with the elves in Rivendell, leaving everything behind to his nephew, Frodo, including the One Ring. Now there's a problem, because Bilbo doesn't want to give it up. The Ring kind of binds itself to its owner, if you know what I mean. It's so evil that it's hard to fight off the urge to get rid of it, which is Bilbo's case here. His friend, Gandalf, has to force him a little to leave it behind, and because Bilbo hasn't had it long enough to go crazy after losing it, he feels better once it's gone. But later on Gandalf finds out that Bilbo's magic ring is in fact the One Ring, and he tells Frodo, who now owns it, that he has to destroy it, and the only way to do that is to throw it into the Cracks of Doom in Mordor, the home of the Dark Lord, Sauron, who is now looking for it to take over Middle Earth(isn't that a cool name?). When Frodo starts out, he's joined by his gardener, and friend, Samwise Gamgee, and friends, Pippin Took and Merry Brandybuck. Later on, they meet up with two men, Aragorn and Boromir, an elf, Legolas, and a dwarf, Gimli, who help him on his journey. I don't want to spoil the ending for you, so that you'll read the books yourself. Their something you wouldn't want to overlook.
